About Between the Worlds Men's Gathering

Our Vision: To create a safe and sacred community wherein men who love men can freely share ideas on the nature of spirituality and their place in the Universe in a loving, respectful and non-judgmental manner.

Why Between the Worlds? Queer men have, for many years now, sought spiritual alternatives to the mainstream religious paths that have historically condemned their very existence. While New Age, Pagan, and Earth-centered paths and gatherings generally welcome queer spiritual seekers, they are often heterocentric in outlook and seldom address issues specific to the needs of these men. With this in mind, the BTW Men.s Gathering was designed to provide a safe place for men who love men to explore alternative spiritual practices and paths, to empower themselves, and to plant the seeds of spiritual renewal within the gay community. BTW offers rituals, workshops, drumming, dancing, performances, a marketplace, and safe space for queer men to learn, worship, network, and explore.

Our History: BTW is the brainchild of a dedicated group of gay and bi men from a number of different Pagan paths who were looking for an outlet tailored to their specific spiritual needs. First proposed during the 1999 Pagan Spirit Gathering, BTW was founded in 2002 and meets annually around the Autumnal Equinox. BTW celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2006.

Our Matron/Patron Deities: We honor many paths, traditions, and Deities at BTW; however, two Deities hold a special place in our hearts because of their association with boundary-breaking and self-empowerment . Hekate, the Triple Goddess, and Dionysos, the God of Ecstasy. These Deities, and many others, are honored with annual rituals at BTW.

Our Location: The setting is a clothing-optional private campground in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio near Athens. Surrounded by meadows and groves of burr oak, shagbark hickory and sassafras trees, our men can shut out the distractions of the mundane world in order to build a dream that they can carry home in their hearts to warm them throughout the year.

Our Community: BTW attendees are men who love men (including post-operative FTM), age 18 and older, who are drawn from spiritual traditions including, but not limited to, Pagan, Nature Spirituality, Witchcraft, Norse, Hindu, Buddhism, Wicca, New Age, Thelema, Radical Faerie, Druid, Shaman, Hellenic, Ceremonial Magick, Gnostic, and African Diasporic paths.
